The Dobiegniew urban district is located in the eastern part of a region called the Dobiegniew Lake District and in the southern part of the Drawsko Plain. Administratively it belongs to the county of Strzelce-Drezdenko in the Lubuskie province. There are about 100 lakes in the region, over 1 hectare in size. The highest peak reaches 129 metres above sea level. The longest river is Drawa. The Drawa National Park was established in one of its tributaries in 1990. Farming, tourism and recreation can become the main branches of the economy. In summer one can rest beside beautiful, clean lakes. There is the possibility to do water sports and go fishing. Wonderful forests guarantee relaxation for lovers of mushroom picking and walking. The neighbourhood of the National Park allows one to find out about the attractions of nature, lovely bird and animal refuges as well as admiring the meandering Drawa and Plociczna rivers. Canoe rallies are organised on the Drawa River, from Drawno to Stara Osieczna. Rallies from Czaplinek to Drawiny are organised for more experienced canoeists. What is characteristic of the river are its fast current and mountain river-like meanders. A plan was elaborated, called �Lubuskie Mazury� in the district. The plan allows for the needs of sailing and water tourism. According to the plan a water route with wonderful natural attractions will be created. The length of the route will be 75 km. There are many other attractions, like the 100-year old power station near Głusko, a palace and a 16-hectare large park in Mierzęcin. During World War II there was a prisoner-of-war camp 2 km from Dobiegniew. 6 thousand Polish officers were kept there. It is known as Oflag IIC Woldenberg. Nowadays it is a museum. The development of tourism and its base is paramount as far as investments are concerned. Natural conditions and unpolluted environment are conducive to various kind of relaxation.
