ABSTRACT
The article presents kernel number and mass characteristics of some chosen cultivars of winter (Zyta and Kris) and spring wheat (Nawra and Broma). Kernel number and mass was analyzed along the full whole length of a representative number of ears. Statistical data analysis was carried out with a help of the Statistica programme, version 5.5. Significant statistical differences in the mean values of kernel mass within a spikelet were observed. The spikelets placed a little below the ear center were characterized by the highest kernel number and mass.

W pracy przedstawiono charakterystykę liczby i masy ziarniaków w kłoskach i kłosach wybranych odmian pszenicy ozimej (Zyta i Kris) i jarej (Nawra i Broma). Analizowano liczbę i masę pojedynczych ziarniaków na całej długości reprezentatywnej liczby kłosów. Obliczenia statystyczne wykonano przy użyciu programu Statistica, wersja 5.5. Stwierdzono statystycznie istotne różnice średniej masy ziarniaków w obrębie kłosków. Największą liczbą i masą ziarniaków charakteryzowały się kłoski położone nieco poniżej środka kłosa.
