The aim of the article is to outline the actual position of agricultural meteorology among other disciplines and to describe the general tendencies of its development in the last decades. A significant improvement in the computing and other technical methods increased the possibilities of agrometeorological research and services. The new opportunities were established also by better short- and medium-range weather forecasts. At the same time, a rapidly expanding interest in agrometeorological information may be observed in agriculture. The main direction of further activities seems to be the development of systems of operational recommendations, among them dealing with plant protection.
